2009/2010 Meeting Calendar

All regular monthly meetings (usually the third Saturday of each month) have a Board Meeting at 1:00 p.m. and Regular Meeting at 2:00 p.m.

  • January 16  Anchorage Cooperative Extension Jaime Rodriguez will present "New Rock Garden Plants" featuring plants that are new to Alaska or the Horticulture Industry (unusual or untried)
  • February 20 Valley, MTA Building, Palmer "Plants for Tufa Gardens" This group effort will help us plan the ABG Tufa Garden. Bring pictures and ideas to share to help decide which plants to order for the new Tufa Garden at ABG. Carmel Tysver has applied for a $1000 grant from NARGS for this purpose.
  • March 20 Anchorage UAA Rassmussen Bldg. (Formerly the Business Admin Bldg. It's the green & gray 3-story bldg.) This is a Two Part Meeting. Part 1. Amelia Walsh will show her short program she presented at the NARGS Winter Study Weekend in 2009. Part 2. Jaime Rodriguez will present "Hardy Low Rock Garden Plants of the Genera Synthris and Veronica"
  • April 3, 2010 Anchorage "Garden Day" at the Sears Mall. A volunteer sign-up sheet will be available at the February and March meetings. If you have a specific time to volunteer, call Verna @ (907) 333-8212.
  • April 17 Valley MTA Building, Palmer Speaker Verna Pratt will present "Native Rock Garden Plants of Healy, Alaska" NOTE: This program is a predecessor of two summer field trips to the area. June 12-13 to see the plants in bloom and August 7-8 to gather seeds. (Camping is available and a motel is near by. Plans for such need to be made in advance.) Contact Verna for particulars.
  • May 15, 2010 Anchorage Alaska Botanical Garden Clean-up 1:00 p.m. Clean up of the Rock Gardens at the ABG and planting the new Tufa Garden.
  • May 22, 2010  Anchorage Plant Sale
  • May 29 Valley Plant Sale
  • June 12 & 13 Healy Field Trip. Botanizing the area around Bison Gulch and Mt Healy to see flowers in bloom, take photos, and note where to collect seeds in August. Contact Verna Pratt if you intend to come along.
  • July  Willow Coyote Gardens Tour and fundraiser
  • August 7 & 8 Healy Field Trip. Seed collecting and botanizing.

Our Anchorage meetings are usually held at the Cooperative Extension Service classroom, 2221 E. Northern Lights Blvd, Anchorage, unless otherwise noted.

Our Valley meetings may be held at either the MTA conference room, 480 Commercial Drive, Palmer, or at the Matanuska-Susitna College, Mi. 2 Trunk Road, Palmer.
